Description:

The St. Jadwiga’s Regional Specialist Neuropsychiatric Centre is situated in Opole, the capital of the Voivodeship, which itself is located at the Odra River, near route 94, not far from the A4 motorway. The hospital specialises in psychiatry and neurology, and includes wards for adults and children, specialist clinics, a diagnostic laboratory, as well as the lab diagnostics and rehabilitation department.

Neurological treatment for adults is provided in well-equipped Neurology Wards and Stroke Wards.

Three wards provide 24-hour care for adult psychiatric patients:

  • Adult Psychiatric Ward A with 63 beds, including a separate Increased Psychiatric Supervision Unit (15 beds),
  • Adult Psychiatric Ward B with 63 beds,
  • Adult Psychiatric Ward C with 40 beds.

24-hour care for children and youth is provided by:

  • Child and Youth Neurology Ward (24 beds),
  • Child and Youth Psychiatry Ward (18 beds).

Psychiatric patients are offered treatment in the Psychiatric Day Care Ward, in General Unit and Neurosis and Personality Disorders Treatment Unit.

The Neurological Rehabilitation Day Care Ward was opened on May 15th, 2009, where post-hospital rehabilitation is continued for the patients who underwent a stroke or craniocerebral injury.

Patients of the specialist clinic and hospital wards have access to the following types of diagnostics: EMG, EEG, UDP, TCD, USG, RTG, and 24-hour access to MRI and CT. Out-patient specialist care is provided by doctors specialising in a particular field at the neurological and psychiatric clinics.

Since 1992 the hospital has been working together with the Hans Prinzhorn Psychiatric Clinic in Hemer, Germany, the Psychiatric Clinic in Lvov and the Psychiatric Hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine).

The regular participation of the staff in national and foreign skill-improving training fosters the improvement and implementation of cutting-edge methods of work with the mentally ill. In parallel with pharmacotherapy, patients participate in behaviour training, music therapy, relaxation and psycho-drawing. Patients partake in ceramic, carpentry, art, sculpture, candle, and weaving workshops. Furthermore, since 2003 they may participate in therapeutic horse riding. In 2004 classes in therapeutic theatre and yoga were introduced.

The hospital’s biggest asset is qualified specialist staff who offer the highest-quality medical services. The medical activity is focused on early diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of neurological and psychiatric diseases.

The Early Neuroradiological Intervention Centre was established in November 2010.

The main objective for the Centre is therapy involving the restoration of cerebral circulation in the acute phase of an ischemic stroke and the reduction of extensive neurological deficit risk.

On January 1st, 2011, Stroke Wards were created within the Adult Neurology Wards.
